Jewel Cave National Monument
Immerse yourself within the third longest cave in the world. With over 200 miles of mapped and surveyed passages, this underground wilderness appeals to human curiosity. Its splendor is revealed through fragile formations and glimpses of brilliant color. Its maze of passages lure explorers, and its scientific wealth remains a mystery. This resource is truly a jewel in the National Park Service. THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE YOUR VISIT: IMPORTANT: Participants that have been in any other caves or mines since 2005 are required to wear (clean) different clothes and footwear within Jewel Cave to prevent the spread of White Nose Syndrome (WNS). For specific guidance related to guests that have recently taken part in cave tours at nearby Wind Cave National Park, please call the Monument directly at (605) 673-8300 and speak with a park ranger. Cave tour participants will be required to walk on a decontamination mat after their tour to prevent the spread of White Nose Syndrome.
