Communities in our Black Hills celebrate events as unique as the community itself, from Gold Discovery Days in Custer to the Film Festival in Hill City to Neutrino Days in Lead. Free outdoor summer concerts are held weekly in Rapid City, Spearfish and Belle Fourche.
Rodeos have a remarkable history in western South Dakota. Top rodeos in the Black Hills include the Day's of '76 Rodeo in Deadwood, the Black Hills Roundup in Belle held over the Fourth of July weekend, the Mt Rushmore Rodeo at Palmer Gulch and the Black Hills Stock Show and Rodeo in Rapid City.
A bucket list event is the Crazy Horse Volksmarch when visitors get to walk to the top of Crazy Horse Memorial. Add to your Black Hills experience and plan your trip around one of our great events.

Celebrate St. Paddy’s in the Wild West with a pub crawl, the Leprechaun Olympics, a parade and music set for March 13 and 14, 2020. Deadwood’s annual Pub Crawl, held on Saturday, March 14, is the largest of its kind in the region, with well over 3,000 participants annually.
Deadwood’s pub crawl is the largest of its kind in the region attracting 2,000 participants. It starts at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday ending at 6:30 p.m. with the awards at 7:00 p.m. Food, and music round out the festivities. Open container allowed in Zones 1 & 2, in official cups only.

Indulge in a two day festival of fine food, wine, and distinctive brews at the Annual Forks, Corks, and Kegs, event in Historic Deadwood. Visit various venues to sample beer and wine from the around the country as well as Black Hills Favorites. April 3-4, 2020.
During this tasty tour of Deadwood you will visit various locations around town. Each location will feature their chef's finest culinary creation paired with the perfect complimentary beverage.Festival Passes Include: Commemorative Glassware; Trolley Transportation (within City limits). Delicious events include: Flair bar tending demonstrations, Light hors d'oeuvres and a Beer & Wine Tasting; Deadwood Appetizer Crawl; Coffee Tasting and Seminar; Deadwood Dine Around; Grand Tasting; and Cigar Tasting.
Event registration starts Friday at 2:00 p.m and Saturday at 8:00 a.m * Must be 21 to participate.
April 3rd (FRIDAY)
2PM – 8PM – Event Registration – Pickup your Festival Pass lanyard (your pass to all the weekend’s events and trolley transportation), event guide and welcome packet in the main lobby ofDeadwood Mountain Grand.
5PM – 7PM – Wine Around Deadwood* – Locations around Deadwood each host a different vineyard. A representative from the vineyard will be on hand to answer questions about their most popular wines while providing profile and pairing advice to attendees.
8PM – 10PM – Appetizer Crawl* – Sample bite-sized masterpieces, each paired with a wine or beer sample, created by local chefs at their respective restaurants.
April 4th (SATURDAY)
9AM – 12PM – Event Registration
11AM – 3PM – Deadwood Dine Around* – Stop at many Deadwood locations throughout the afternoon for the Deadwood Dine Around. Local chefs prepare samples of their favorite dishes paired with beverages.
4PM – 6PM – Grand Tasting –Pick up your 2020 commemorative glassware upon entering Deadwood Mountain Grand’s Event Center, it’s the perfect accessory for sampling dozens of top choices from participating wineries, breweries and specialty vendors, all in one location. The event features music and light hors d’oeuvres.
6PM – Cigar Tasting –If you’re a cigar lover, you won’t want to miss this sampling hosted at the Deadwood Tobacco. For just $2 (extra) you’ll get your own Sweet Jane; you do have to smoke it there.

The 19th Annual Mickelson Trail Marathon is a scenic race along 26.2 miles of Black Hills beauty set June 2, 2019. There are both full and half marathon races. Register Saturday, June 1, enjoy a Pasta Buffet at the headquarters hotel, the Lodge at Deadwood. Make a weekend of it and take part in affiliated events in Historic Deadwood.
The Mickelson Trail is 114 miles of trail developed on the abandoned Burlington Northern Railroad bed.The race begins in the tiny Black Hills town of Rochford and ends at the historic Engine House at the trailhead in Deadwood.The course consists of flat terrain and gentle uphill slopes through the forest of the northern Black Hills. Come run the beautiful, historic Mickelson Trail in 2020.

Have a sizzling summer at Spearfish Downtown Friday Nights starting June 5 with 35th & Taylor and wrapping up on August 28 with Whiskey Bent Band. Start your weekend off with free live music on Spearfish Main Street every Friday night throughout the summer. Music Starts at 6:30, Vendors open at 5:30 p.m.

The Crazy Horse Volksmarch is unique bi-annual event that brings you face to face with a Black Hills legend. With more than 10,000 participants in a typical year the Crazy Horse Volksmarch is one of the most popular organized hikes in the United States.
Make plans to take a hike and cross the Crazy Horse Volksmarch off your bucket list! This 10k (6.2 mile) trek takes you on hilly and rocky paths and gravel work roads to the arm of the massive mountain sculpture where you get an up close look at the 87 foot (9 story) face of Lakota hero, Crazy Horse.The hike usually takes about two hours but there is a 500 foot increase in elevation so walkers will want to pace themselves.Water stations and port-a-potties are available along the route.The walk is sponsored by the Black Hills Chapter of the American Volksmarch Association (AVA) so there is a small fee for participants. Volksmarches are held the first full weekend in June and the last Sunday in September (the same weekend as the Buffalo Roundup). Pets of all kinds are prohibited on the trail.*Volksmarches are held, weather permitting.Though a family event, the rugged terrain is not suitable for infant strollers.

Ride 'em cowboy and cowgirl! Have a wild west good time at the Mount Rushmore Rodeo at Palmer Gulch June 6 and 20, August 6 and 22 and September 6, 2020. All Rodeos run from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm.
Mount Rushmore Rodeo at Palmer Gulch includes barrel racing, saddle bronc riding, bareback riding, bull riding, team roping, and kids mutton bustin' competitions. There will be pre rodeo activities and dancing to live music afterwards. Admission is free to Palmer Gulch guests and $10 Day Use fee for Adults and $5 for kids for those not staying at the resort. Don't miss this action on June 6 and 20, August 6 and 22 and September 6, 2020.

In addition to Classic Car competitions, People’s Choice awards, and a show and shine on Main Street in Historic Deadwood, Cool cats come to the Sock Hop and take in the free concerts on Main Street. The Main Street Entertainment will be announced by spring of 2020.

It's country, pop, rock and even "Rockabilly," the Wild West Songwriters Festival is one of the most unique of its kind and set in one of America's most historic landmarks. Hosted along Main Street Deadwood and inside The Deadwood Mountain Grand, hit songwriters will gather together for three full days of performances, panels and parties. The annual event features both return performers and fresh new faces.The Wild West Songwriter's Festival is a rare, behind-the-scenes look at the lyrical creation of some of today's hit songs, and the writers who penned them. 2010 event takes place October 8th, 9th, and 10th.
The Wild West Song Writers Festival feature three days of “writer’s rounds” with songwriters performing hits they have written and telling the story behind the music. These rounds are fan favorites most notably because they are able to listen to songs that have sold millions across the world in very intimate venues throughout the historic town of Deadwood. The festival culminates with a Saturday night Jam session.
