Tomahawk Lake Country Club

Tomahawk Lake Golf Course is an open-golf, challenging par 36 made up of two par 5s, two par threes and five par fours. Players wind their way through the Black Hills National Forest around a large hill that is literally “crowned” by the layout of the course. The course rewards players for staying in the fairway but punishes those who wander slightly of course into tall, dense rough. Towering pine trees and a winding creek add additional obstacles for players lacking precision and distance control. Dramatic elevation changes often require players to club up or down at least two clubs from various shot locations. Designed by renowned golf course architect Lawrence Hughes in the late 1930's, Tomahawk Lake Country Club is a picturesque nine-hole, par 36, course located just seven miles south of Historic Deadwood, South Dakota. From narrow fairways lined by tall pine trees to dramatic elevation changes from tee box to green, Tomahawk is a challenging course that will test the nerves of even the most avid golfers. All 3,390 yards meanders through the Black Hills National Forest providing a setting not easily matched by any other course in the country. A 10-acre practice area allows players to warm up for their round or hone their skills. It's not hard to understand why golfers from around the region choose Tomahawk Lake Country Club as one of the best open-golf courses in the Black Hills. The course is open from April 1 - October 31
