The Black Hills of South Dakota is home to Terry Peak Ski Area and Ski Mystic Miner at Deer Mountain. Both ski resorts offer excellent black hills skiing opportunities without the crowds found at some of the larger resorts in nearby Colorado and Minnesota.
Their are numerous trails throughout the Black Hills which are great for snowmobiling in the wintertime. Snowmobile trails are open December 15 - March 31 every year. Over 1,500 miles of snowmobile trails exist in South Dakota, lose yourself in the 1 million acres of ponderosa pine in the Black Hills. Check out the Black Hills snowmobiling maps here.
Visitors looking to make a winter escape to the Black Hills will want to head to the Deadwood/Lead area, which serves as a hub for this great outdoor winter experience. Historic Deadwood and Lead are popular destinations that offer access to groomed trails which are perfect to explore on foot or by snowmobile. And when you are done playing outside, you can head back to Deadwood to enjoy wild west fun and themed casinos.
