Keystone, South Dakota (video) is the closest city in the Black Hills to Mount Rushmore which is located 3 miles from the monument. Keystone offers travelers many lodging and hotel options, to include balcony views of Mount Rushmore. Keystone is also a great place in the Black Hills to get Mount Rushmore souvenirs. The mile-long retail district offers variety of restaurants and of course lots of souvenir shops. Watch homemade saltwater taffy being pulled, have an “Old Time” western family photo taken, or mingle with American presidents at the National Presidential Wax Museum.
The Rushmore Borglum Historical Center sheds light on Gutzon Borglum, the man who carved Mount Rushmore. Keystone is also home to the Rushmore Cave Adventure Park, the Presidential Alpine Slide and the 1880 Train.
