Deadwood, South Dakota "still breathes with the rugged spirit and beauty of a frontier town" - Forbes Magazine. Historic Deadwood is listed by Forbes as one of the nation's prettiest towns. With ongoing restoration the entire town of Deadwood is a Registered National Historic Landmark. Stroll the cobblestone streets and admire the carefully restored architecture of Main Street or try your luck at a hand of blackjack, slots or Texas hold ‘em poker in one of Deadwood’s historic lodging and gaming casinos. There are upwards of 80 gaming casinos here, including the all new Deadwood Mountain Grand Entertainment Center! Infamous characters, Calamity Jane and Wild Bill Hickok, are both buried in Mt. Moriah Cemetery, which overlooks the city and is open to the public.
A reenactment of the shoot-out that follows the fall of Wild Bill is performed daily during summer months. The Broken Boot Gold Mine offers tours every 30 minutes, and is open from mid-May to mid-September. Year-round tours of the Adams House offer a first-hand look at a Victorian-era mansion restored to museum quality. The accompanying Adams Museum is the oldest history museum in the Black Hills. The Homestake Adams Research and Cultural Center opened in 2011 and house the Homestake Mining Company collection. In 2012 the Days of 76 Museum opens, a state of the art western heritage facility that exposes the sport of rodeo. Historic Deadwood is also home to Tatanka: Story of the Bison where you’ll find Kevin Costner’s version on the story of the bison in the Black Hills of South Dakota.
Historic Deadwood is minutes from many recreation attractions such as Terry Peak and Mystic Miner Ski Resorts, miles of snowmobile trails, and marks the Northern Trailhead of the George S. Mickelson Recreational Trail.
